IMF Tune Build fixes DNSxL Issue

A new IMF Tune build is available for download.

Build 7.1.310.07 fixes a problem impacting the DNSxL functionality available in IMF Tune for Exchange 2007/2010/2013/2016. This fix does not concern IMF Tune for Exchange 2003 users.

Users running Exchange 2007 or later are advised to upgrade to the latest build.

Problem Details

In this release we are updating the implementation of the DNS IP Allow/Block List functionality. The problem being fixed is only of concern when IMF Tune is configured as follows:

  • Both DNS IP Allow Lists and DNS IP Block Lists are configured to process emails.
  • The exception list for the DNS IP Allow Lists does not match the exception list for the DNS IP Block Lists.

The DNS IP Allow and Block Lists have their own distinct IP exception list. Both exception lists are initialized with the same set of standard IP ranges. However it is possible to customize the lists such that to add or remove IP exceptions.

We identified a problem that arises when an IP exception is only present in one of the lists but not in the other. The problem may cause the IMF Tune engine to restart on processing certain emails.

Error events are also generated at the Application event log identifying the faulting application to be IMFTEng.exe and the faulting module to be DNSResolve.dll

This problem is now fixed and we encourage IMF Tune v7.x users running Exchange 2007 and later to upgrade.
