IMF Tune v3.5 BETA Release – Exchange 2007 Support

Jan 18, 2008

We are pleased to announce yet another IMF Tune landmark release. IMF Tune v3.5 BETA is our first step in supporting Exchange 2007!

In all we are releasing two builds one for 64-bit platforms and one for 32-bit. Both require Exchange 2007 Hub or Edge Transport Server to be installed.

Apart for the native Exchange 2007 support, we are not introducing any new features. In fact the feature set is nearly identical to that of IMF Tune v3.0. For this reason we are not releasing an IMF Tune v3.5 build for Exchange 2003. Version 3.0 (Build: 3.0.110.08) continues to be the latest build supporting Exchange 2003.

This is the first step that will take us towards the next IMF Tune release. In February we plan to release a second beta that includes some new features. Final release is targeted for the end of this quarter. This will be available for both Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007.

We are already running IMF Tune v3.5 on our servers and are very happy of the stability and quality of this build.

As always we are waiting for your feedback and comments. Tell us how we are doing and what IMF Tune is missing. The most popular feature requests always end up in our TODO list.

Differences between IMF Tune v3.0 and IMF Tune v3.5

The most obvious difference is the fact that version 3 extends the Exchange 2003 Intelligent Message Filter whereas version 3.5 builds on top of the Exchange 2007 Content Filter. Some more differences also exist.

  1. Exchange version support. Version 3.0 only supports Exchange 2003 whereas version 3.5 BETA only supports Exchange 2007. However the final release will support both Exchange versions.

  2. Unprocessed Emails. IMF Tune v3.0 includes support for handling of emails that the Exchange IMF does not process. This functionality is not available in v3.5. Refer to the user manual for details on the IMF Tune v3.0 Unprocessed Email handling functionality.

  3. Exchange System Management Configuration Category. The IMF Tune v3.0 configuration includes a category from which the native MS Exchange anti-spam settings may be viewed and exported. IMF Tune v3.5 does not provide equivalent functionality for Exchange 2007.

  4. Configuration Auto-Initialization. IMF Tune v3.0 on first install will automatically configure Global Thresholds so that to replicate the MS Exchange IMF threshold settings. IMF Tune v3.5 does not perform auto-initialization. A fresh install will be initialized with a default set or Global Thresholds.

  5. IMF/Content Filtering Gateway Blocking. Both IMF Tune versions require the disablement of Gateway filtering actions such as Reject, Delete, Archive or Quarantine. Any emails blocked at gateway level won't be processed by IMF Tune.

IMF Tune v3.0 configuration on start-up will automatically detect and issue warnings if such Exchange 2003 configurations are detected.

IMF Tune v3.5 does not perform similar detection and won't issue any warning in case the Exchange 2007 Content Filter is configured to filter emails at Gateway Level.

Version Information

This information applies to the first beta release of IMF Tune v3.5 build number 3.5.101.17. If IMF Tune is already installed you can verify the current build number from the configuration under the WinDeveloper category.
