The Microsoft IMF v2 Updates May Cause Problems with IMF Tune (QF20060110)

Installing Exchange Intelligent Message Filter (IMF) updates may cause a warning dialog to pop-up whenever opening the IMF Tune configuration.

This issue applies to users running IMF Tune together with IMF v2.

As from December 2005, Microsoft started releasing regular IMF updates. Installing any of these updates may lead IMF Tune to incorrectly detect the current IMF version. In turn, on opening the configuration, this causes the following warning dialog to pop-up:

The warning is incorrect since:

• It states that IMF is disabled.

• The Exchange System Manager object referred to by the dialog applies to IMF v1 and not IMF v2.

The problem does not affect spam filtering in any manner. The product will still function and process emails.

Checking If IMF Tune Requires the Fix

This problem is only cosmetic. Thus users not experiencing this issue are not required to apply the fix.

The build number including this fix is 2.6.201.10. Verify the currently installed build number to determine if this fix applies to your IMF Tune version. Do this as follows:

1. Open the IMF Tune configuration.

2. Select the WinDeveloper category

3. If the build number matches 2.6.201.10 there is no need to apply the fix. Otherwise if the current build number is lower you may want to upgrade to the latest build.

Upgrading IMF Tune

You may obtain the fix in one of the following manners:

Installing the latest IMF Tune build 2.6.201.10

OR

Applying the cumulative patch for IMF Tune build 2.6.110.25

Applying Patch QF20060110

The patch applies to IMF Tune build 2.6.110.25., and includes all fixes released since this build. Follow this link to download the patch. Installation instructions are included within the compressed file.

Upgrading IMF Tune to Build 2.6.201.10

The complete IMF Tune build is available from the WinDeveloper site. Follow this link to download the latest IMF Tune build.

When performing a full IMF Tune upgrade, this is the recommended procedure:

1. Uninstall IMF Tune

2. Restart 'IIS Admin' service.

3. Install the new IMF Tune to the same HDD location as for the previous version just uninstalled.

By following these steps you are sure that no server restarts are required and that all configuration settings are retained.
