KB918283: MS Exchange 2003 SP2 Sender ID Hotfix

We would like to alert you of a fix available from Microsoft for Exchange 2003 SP2 Sender ID, even though this does not directly concern our software.

The performance of the server deteriorates over time after you enable Sender ID Filtering in Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2

It is common for IMF Tune users to also make use of the Exchange Sender ID filter. With both filters running on the same server, the source of this problem might not be immediately clear. Thus we wanted to share the lesson learnt in recent support cases so as to facilitate the resolution of others experiencing the same issue.

In the two support cases we investigated, we observed that some emails were ending up stuck in the SMTP Virtual server Queue directory. These emails would not be delivered until Simple Mail Transport Service is restarted. This problem only appears as long as Sender ID is enabled. With Sender ID disabled no emails would get stuck in the Queue directory.

If you experience such a problem we suggest verifying whether the problem coincides with the enablement status of Sender ID. If yes, check the fix referenced above.
