About Exchange 2010, Exchange 2007 SP2 and Windows 2008 R2

In this post we discuss the various new releases coming from Microsoft and explain where IMF Tune stands in the new scenarios that arise.

We start with the most immediately relevant release to most of you, Exchange 2007 SP2. We completed testing IMF Tune v4.2 against this Service Pack and can confirm that no issues were encountered. Thus IMF Tune v4.2 is fully supported when running against Exchange 2007 SP2.

If you are still running earlier IMF Tune v4 releases (v4.0/v4.1) we recommend upgrading to IMF Tune v4.2 before upgrading to Exchange 2007 SP2.

The next Microsoft release we discuss is Windows 2008 R2. Some time ago it became public that Exchange 2007 will not be supported on Windows 2008 R2 machines. This is documented in the Exchange Server Supportability Matrix. Thus, we just want to remind you not to attempt upgrading any Exchange 2007 server machines to Windows 2008 R2. Exchange 2010 will be the version supported on the Windows 2008 R2 platform.

This brings us to discuss IMF Tune support for Exchange 2010. We are planning to include Exchange 2010 support in IMF Tune version 5. We have been working on v5 for some months now and hope to have a beta shortly. However the takeaway here is that IMF Tune v4.2 does not support Exchange 2010.
